Why do you live in community?

I live in community for support and for more effective service of the poor by the sharing of God given talents. It is in community that my prayer life is enhanced by the example and assistance of other sisters. – Sr. Nora Sweeney

Daughters of Charity live in community as a means of ongoing support for their mission to serve those most in need.  In other words, our common life of prayer and sharing has a direct connection to our ministry.  The support I receive from the Sisters with whom I live enables me to go out the door every day and minister to those most in need.  Our Constitutions (the framework by which we live) state it very clearly:  “Called and assembled by God, the Daughters of Charity live a life in common to better fulfill their specific mission of service”. - Sister Maura Hobart
I live in community because I believe that it is essential to have the support of others, who share the same commitment, in order to be a healthy, effective, and faith-filled servant  of persons who are poor. - Sister Marilyn Perkins

I feel strengthened by the bonds I have with my Sisters.  I wouldn't be able to continue to do what I do in the way that I do it if I didn't have life in community.  Here at the Motherhouse of the Daughters in Paris, I have the opportunity to live with Sisters from over 10 countries and languages.  While working at the Motherhouse, I still feel and need the connection with my Sisters from my own province in Albany. – Sr. Mary Frances Barnes
