| | MEET SISTER JOCELYNE Sr Jocelyne was born in Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada. She is the oldest of a family of four, and the only girl. She continues to be very close of her brothers.
She is a woman of action. Since her youth, she has participated and committed herself to different organizations such as Girl Scout, Marian youth group…; she gave her time, energy, talents to help others and lead them to make a difference in their lives. Sr Jocelyne involved the groups in many activities through the St Vincent de Paul’s Society . She is also a woman of prayer. God has always been a priority in her life and prayer like a lighthouse. For her, being a presence to the lonely person, to the poor, is a source of joy. Helping, listening, encouraging supporting them is important.
For many years, she taught kindergarten. She enjoyed the energy, the openness of the children, their curiosity, their eagerness to discover, and their honesty. Teaching was a passion. She developed programs to help the kids to grow physically, intellectually socially and emotionally. It was through her interactions with children with disabilities that God was slowly preparing her heart to become their advocate and intervene for them.
Before becoming a Daughter of Charity, Sister Jocelyne was also the administrator of a daycare center. To relieve families of children with handicaps, the board and the staff members agreed to offer them a place in the daycare center and help them to be fully part of the group. In this integrated setting, all of the children learned to relate to each other and to discover that each one is unique and gifted differently. During Christmas season, the day care center had a project that involved staff members, parents and children. Through this project, they were sensitized to the needs of those living in poverty and found ways to share what they had with those in need.
On her journey, Sr. Jocelyne met the Daughters of Charity and was attracted by their life of faith and their commitment to the poor. She discovered quickly that contemplation draws them to the poor and the poor send them back to prayer. She joined community late in her life. She is grateful for God’s graces in her journey and has never regretted the move.
Years after, she worked in religious education. She started youth groups to help children to discover who they are, to be present to others and be open to God’s grace in their lives.
Until she was called to leadership she worked as a spiritual director in a Spiritual Center where they offered a 4-year formation program for spiritual directors and had directees as well.
Her passion: Music, hiking, birdwatcher, camping and nature are among what she likes the most. | |
